Aims of this activity
- Noticing the features of a shape and comparing carefully (visual discrimination)
- Searching the whole page without missing anything (visual search)
- Recognizing the same shape even when its size or direction changes (form constancy)
Your child looks for every shape that matches the example and circles it.The activity aims to build the ability to compare shapes by their features, and to search the whole page without missing any.At higher levels, shapes change size and direction, and flipped shapes (which count as different) are mixed in.

Tips
- One or two pages at a time is plenty.
- Before starting, trace the example shape with a finger, or describe it together ("What does it look like?").
- The number next to the example shows how many to find. Crossing off one dot each time a shape is found shows how many are left.
- Write the time it took at the bottom of the page so you can compare next time.
If it is too hard
- Go down one level.
- Fold the page in half to make the search area smaller.
If it is too easy
- Go up one level.
- Record the time and see whether your child can finish a little faster than last time.
