Aims

  • Noticing the features of a shape and comparing carefully (visual discrimination)
  • Searching the whole page without missing anything (visual search)
  • Recognizing the same shape even when its size or direction changes (form constancy)

Tips

  • One or two pages at a time is plenty.
  • Before starting, trace the example shape with a finger, or describe it together ("What does it look like?").
  • The number next to the example shows how many to find. Crossing off one dot each time a shape is found shows how many are left.
  • Write the time it took at the bottom of the page so you can compare next time.

If it is too hard

  • Go down one level.
  • Fold the page in half to make the search area smaller.

If it is too easy

  • Go up one level.
  • Record the time and see whether your child can finish a little faster than last time.
